WANDA MASSIE AWARD

In Recognition of Service and Dedication to Women’s Soccer

This award honours the memory of one of our dedicated past members who died of leukemia in 1998 and is presented annually by the Metro Women’s Soccer League.

Nominations may be submitted by any team or person in the Metro Women’s Soccer League to the MWSL office at 6501 Sprott Street, Burnaby, BC – V5B 3B8. Nominations may also be submitted by email to: info@metrowomenssoccer.com. We will make the presentation at the AGM. We ask nominators to submit the names and any information about that person you think important to MWSL by April 1, 2010. Please ensure that the nomination envelope/email is clearly marked ‘Wanda Massie Award’. Nominations received after April 1, 2010 may not be considered.

Any candidate who has made a significant contribution to women’s soccer in the geographic area of Metro Women’s Soccer League will be considered. This may include former members who are no longer involved with the League. Recipients of this award may not be limited to players but may also include former and present coaches, managers, referees and others. Please provide the committee with all the important data that will support your candidate. The committee will not contact you for additional information.

Wanda Massie grew up playing soccer in Ontario and became a member of the MWSL when she came to Langley in 1986. Wanda was totally committed to the sport as a player, team manager and a person dedicated to the continuing evolvement of women’s soccer.

Wanda was regularly called upon to find a team for women who were interested in playing the game. Langley Parks and Recreation personal regularly passed along Wanda’s phone number to local women looking for a team. Her long service and dedication to the furtherance of women’s soccer is without question. Even after Wanda was diagnosed with leukemia she missed very few games as she continued to lend her support from the sidelines.

On behalf of MWSL and Wanda’s family we encourage every team or individual to consider and nominate a worthy candidate.
